DESCRIPTION

ICSC 216 Primer is a general purpose red oxide alkyd primer for steel substrates. It exhibits a fast dry coupled with good protection against moderate weathering conditions. ICSC 216 is based on a lead-free formulation, alleviating potential health concerns during continuous spray applications.

TYPICAL USES

ICSC 216 is recommended as an economical general shop primer for iron and steel substrates. When topcoated with an ICSC 400 series enamel, good weathering protection can be obtained. This system may be used for such items as machinery, farm implements, structural steel, and metal buildings.

SURFACE PREPARATION and APPLICATION

To obtain maximum service life of any paint system on steel substrates, a clean surface free from all loose paint, moisture, dirt, grease, oil, and rust is required. This may be achieved by power tool cleaning (SSPC-SP3), or more effectively by sandblasting (SSPC-SP6). All weld spatter and slag must be removed and all welds ground smooth of sharp edges prior to painting.

Application should be by conventional or airless spray, as ICSC 216 is generally too fast of dry for brush or roller methods. The use of two coats of ICSC 216 and one or two finish coats is preferred to give maximum service life. The prime and finish coat system should consist of 34 mils of dry film thickness for optimum performance.
