DESCRIPTION

ICSC 244 is a very fast dry alkyd primer that is light grey in color. It contains zinc oxide and other anti-corrosive pigments. This combination provides protection against moderate weathering conditions, although its rust-inhibitive properties are limited. Its quick dry and light color are its strong points. The formulation of ICSC 244 Primer is such that it allowsf or a greater variety of finish coats than is possible with a standard shop primer. ICSC 244 is based on a leadfree formulation.

TYPICAL USES

ICSC 244 Primer finds use as a quick drying primer for steel. Because it is light in color, it is used for moderate duty conditions when a low hiding topcoat is required. Examples would be yellow or certain red finishes. ICSC 244 is based on a vehicle which permits a choice of finish coats from the 400 series enamels or leSe acrylic enamels. It is used on many different items including shop equipment, machinery, rental tool maintenance, and other applications where a fast dry, and not long term corrosion protection, is the principle objective.

SURFACE PREPARATION and APPLICATION

To obtain maximum service life of any paint system on steel substrates, a clean surface free of all loose paint, moisture, dirt, grease, oil, and rust is required. This may be achieved by power tool cleaning (SSPC-SP3), or more effectively by sandblasting (SSPC-SP6). All weld spatter and slag must be removed and all welds ground smooth of all sharp edges prior to painting.

Application should be conventional or airless spray, as ICSC 244 is generally too fast of dry for brush or roller application. The use of one coat of ICSC 244 and two finish coats, achieving 3-4 mils of dry film thickness, is usually sufficient for the medium duty service for which this primer is designed. Use ICSC 35 Thinner for viscosity reduction, although during hot summer months ICSC 30 Thinner is preferred to prevent overspray.
